Quack!! Quake III

Sat on Aasims machine today – started playing Quake III JLT only to find both the boys telling me over my shoulders what to do… “Mamma, that’s not the way to play, look up look up look up, shoot shoot kill him KILL HIM”
“sweetheart, look straight, press the trigger, run straight…. ”
I could sit there for barely 5 minutes before Aasim took over and started playing at a much higher level (hurt me plenty) and in the supposedly a much more difficult arena (in the longest yard) than i was… My boy plays the game real well and says mom you *have* to learn !! (just like i was telling him 15 minutes back you *have* to learn maths)
His father is mighty pleased i must say.. 🙂

Kids talk – this generation

Before we left for our walk we had a small conversation:
Me: Aasim Shut the windows
Aasim: Windows is Shut
Me: NO, windows are not shut, Please shut the windows before we leave
Aasim (a bit emphatically): Windows is shut, I even switched off the monitor.

And i wanted him to shut the windows in his room….

Learning to lose

Yesterday Aasim participated in his first skating competition. Its been just about a month since he started learning. He did not secure a position but completed the race -fell a couple of times, but did not give up.
He cried and was very very upset on not winning the race but got over his disappointment very bravely when we explained that he has to work harder to excel and win – It startles us with the kind of maturity he shows up at times and the way he copes up with disappointments.

Aasim fighting sleep

Of-late I am finding that Aasim is fighting sleep a lot – his eyes are red and sleepy by 8 PM but he manages to stay awake till midnight. and sometime even past midnight Earlier I had attributed to his staying indoors in summer and not getting tired, but since his skating camp began, he does get tired.

I hate to scold him to go to bed – I feel a child should not go to bed crying. He already knows all the stories he should by heart still makes me read at-least 5 of them every night and still refuses to sleep. As I write this, he is roaming around the house sleepy eyed, refusing to go any where near his bed…

Aasim

Aasim today collected some wild flowers (gulmohar) and brought it for me 🙂 My son is growing up to be a fine gentleman!!

The weather today was mostly cloudy so he could play outside. He now wants rabbits as pet and Dinesh has promised to get him a couple.. wonder where will I keep them specially when we are not in town.

Saw that Tarique has scanned one of my very old photographs.. wonder what he wants to do with it.
