We depart for Bangalore tomorrow to attend FOSS.IN and as I was finishing to pack a wave of sadness overcame me. This is the last time I will be packing to go for FOSS.IN, an event which, since past 10 years has been a part of our annual trip to Bangalore – a pilgrimage of sorts.
It all began in the year 2000, I along with Tarique and my three year old (who was just as excited as we were) became a part of what later came to be known as FOSS.IN. A conference which has been more than a conference not just to us but for several others I know. It is here that I made some very good friends, laughed and danced, agreed and argued and learned more about FOSS.
As the years passed Team FOSS.IN, of which I was a part, became much more than just an “organizing committee”. For, each one of us was passionate about the tasks we took upon ourselves working to make the next FOSS.IN better became an of obsession. I’d be lying if I say we worked in complete harmony and with clockwork precision; we argued, we fought, we sulked but in the end, we sorted out and most importantly while we did all those things to each other, our common goal was to organize a better event and yes, we never stopped being a friend to each other.
So in 2009, when Atul out of the blue declared that this is his last FOSS.IN, I was not alone in feeling “this can’t be” “this just can’t be” and as you can see, the result is this last edition of FOSS.IN.
I do hope to meet all my FOSS community friends in Bangalore this year and have a time of my life.
And in the end
The love you take
Is equal to the love you make.
That one trip to bangalore for IT.COM changed my life forever. 🙂
Agree, Vaibhav. It changed many-a-lives. Ours included 🙂
