How often it happens that we either don’t have the correct ingredient for a recipe we want to make or we can’t use the ingredient specified. While you can not replace the key ingredient for a dish, replacing something like eggs or baking powder or herbs is something that can be easily done. And once you start making these replacements, you will start experimenting and evolving the recipes to suit the ingredients available near you, and are to your taste. After all this is how cuisines evolve.
Cooking is an art as well as a science. If you know what kind of ingredient is missing, and what it’s function is in the recipe, you can substitute it. But this is easier said than done. So here’s a cheat sheet of cooking and baking substitutes which you can use in your kitchen.
