A birthday present
Launching this site today has a special significance. It’s Tarique’s birthday and he loves to eat as well as cook good food. In fact, I started appreciating good food and cooking only after marriage. Needless to say, I use to be a very “kam chalau” cook to begin with and barely managed to get a meal together.
We had been married for about a month or so, when I felt the need to impress my husband with my culinary skills. So, with a lot of efforts I made bharwan tindey (Stuffed round gourd). While it was a major achievement for me to be able to keep them ready on time. On the dinner table I heard nothing… not even a word. So before I joined him for dinner, I asked him as I took my first bite “Kaise bane hain?” It did not take me long to realise that I had managed to burn them and they were way too salty. My poor man was eating quietly without complaining and here I was, expecting compliments. It has been 20 years to our marriage and I haven’t repeated that dinner menu of “bharwan tindey”. I still remember that look on his face and we joke about it till date!
It took a while, but I started enjoying the process of getting a meal together for my family and got better in it. For some years I did give it up, but realised that cooking is an art, and a major stress buster. We are now in the Kitchen very often, and we enjoy cooking together, listening to some good music and discussing our day.
This one’s for you, my love, for a healthy and happy life. Happy Birthday.

I run my own software company, SANIsoft as it’s CEO. After long hours at work, I find cooking incredibly therapeutic. After all, there is nothing more relaxing than cooking up a meal to soothe the body, mind and Soul.
The idea for Swati’s Kitchen came about one day as I was chronicling one of my recipes for a dear friend. So here you will see my recipes and tips and tricks for making easy, rewarding and mouthwatering delights.
