Straight<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Bought the “Straight” DVD\u00a0 for Sunday afternoon viewing as the cast looked promising . I did not have any expectations from the movie but it surprised me with some real good editing and direction techniques. One technique I particularly liked was dropping of a truck in front of the moving car to show the transition between London to\u00a0 India…<\/p>\n

The movie is not really racy, but its\u00a0 a light flick -so it serves the purpose. Subject of the move is bold\/controversial\/taboo which speaks for the A certificate from censor board..<\/p>\n

Vinay Pathak as Pinu, the protagonist has done some good work – but then he is a fine actor and nothing less can be expected of him. Gul Panag looks ravishing, the dimples on her cheeks particularly cute, has done a great job of her somewhat limited role. She has lovely husky voice that sounds very sincere as she delivers her dialogues.<\/p>\n

Pinu Patel (Vinay Pathak) is a London based restaurateur and owns Gaylord, which serves Indian cuisine. A simple man with tiny complexities in life such as being a virgin and his to be wife running away from the marriage pendal (he goes to India to get married) makes him doubt his self worth. An introvert, he has a nagging aunt, an uncle and a cousin (Rajat) who is a friend. He returns from India and lies about his marital status and tells everyone that his wife will join him later.
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

Kamlesh, a stand up comedian and a cook forces the gullible Pinu to employ him and in due course of time becomes Pinu’s friend and confidante.\u00a0 Renu (Gul Panag), on Pinu’s uncle’s recommendation is employed by him as his accountant.<\/span><\/p>\n

While Pinu’s aunt\u00a0 is looking for a bride for him, he finds himself attracted to the bold and good looking Renu, who is also a cartoonist but does not have the courage to proclaim his love to her as she thinks he is married. Kamlesh and Renu develop a camaraderie and become good friends. <\/span><\/p>\n

A drunken stupor makes Pinu tell his reality to Kamlesh who in turn makes a stand up show about Pinu and everyone at the restaurant knows about his single status.\u00a0 This changes his life as he is now a wee bit more confident about himself but doubts if Renu even likes him. <\/span><\/p>\n

Somewhere in the battle of self discovery Pinu starts doubting his sexual preferences and wonders if he is gay. The cousin is no help in telling him otherwise. The straight gets twisted at this time. I will refrain from giving further details. Go buy the DVD\u00a0 and watch this one. The music score is nice and the movie will keep you entertained.
