Ever since we were toddlers we have been singing \u201cSare jahan se achcha hindostan hamara\u201d We also know that it was written by Allama Iqbal, thanks to our teachers. But we never really got to read the entire ghazal. Allama Iqbal wrote \u201cTarana-e-Hind\u201d (an ode to Hindustan) for children in 1904. Recited by Iqbal the following year at Government College, Lahore, now in Pakistan, it quickly became an anthem of opposition to the British rule in India. The song, an ode to Hindustan\u2014the land comprising present-day Bangladesh, India, and Pakistan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
