A quick fix dinner for weeknights

This creamy pasta with ham and peas recipe is a one dish that I end up making atleast once a week. It’s a recipe by the lovely Nigella Lawson and it is one of her finest. Making this five ingredient Pasta recipe is an absolute pleasure because it’s so quick to make. smoked ham provides the flavour and peas give this creamy meal a nice crunch.

Tips

While I have used farfalle, you can use any pasta you like with this creamy sauce. Also try adding diced pepper (red/yellow/green) just before turning off the stove for extra flavour.

Types of Pasta

There are many different types of pasta, a staple dish of Italian cuisine. Some pasta varieties are uniquely regional and not widely known; some types may have different names in different languages, or sometimes in the same language. For example, the cut rotelle is also called ruote in Italy and “wagon wheels” in the United States. Manufacturers and cooks often invent new shapes of pasta; or may invent new names for old shapes for marketing reasons. Read the complete list at Wikipedia

Pasta with Ham and Peas

Pasta with Ham and Peas

Ingredients

  • Pasta 200 gm (farfalle or any pasta of your choice)
  • Peas 100 gm
  • Cream 200 ml
  • Ham 150 gm diced
  • Parmesan Cheese 3-4 Tbsp
  • Olive oil 1/2 Tsp.
  • Pepper 1/2 Tsp
  • Salt to taste /if needed.

Method

Step 1

Boil water, add ample amount of salt (I use 2-3 Tbsp salt in about 2 liters of water). Add pasta and cook till it becomes al dente.

Step 2

Add peas to the water with pasta and allow it to simmer for about 30 seconds. Drain the pasta and peas. Rinse with cold water so that the ingredients do not overcook. Drain and keep aside.

Step 3

Heat a pan on stove, add 1/2 tsp of olive oil and toss the ham in it. Sprinkle pepper. Add the cream and warm it on a reduced the flame. After the cream gets warm, add Parmesan, pasta and peas. Toss everything well so that the pasta gets evenly coated with the cream mixture.

Step 4

I usually do not add salt to this dish as the pasta is boiled in salted water and other ingredients have salt. But do taste for saltiness if needed.

Step 5

Remove in a serving bowl.

Serving Suggestion for Creamy Pasta

Serve warm with an additional sprinkling of Parmesan.
